I am looking for D.O.T air brake tubing. What does this mean?

D.O.T. tubing is required to meet standards defined by SAE J844 which requires nylon tubing. This standard also defines Type A and Type B tubing. Type A is 5/16" OD or less which is what Freelin-Wade produces which are for instrumentation and pneumatic accessories connected to the air brake system. Sizes above 5/16" are Type B tubing which requires a braid inside the tubing. This process requires machinery which Freelin-Wade doesn't currently support.

What markings are printed on your DOT tubing, and what do they mean?

• Type “A” D.O.T. tubing
• Meets SAE J844 specifications
• Temperature range: -60° to 200°F (-51° to 93°C)
• Vacuum rating: to 28” Hg
• Diameter tolerances: ±0.004” or better (varies by size)
• Hardness: 78 Rockwell R
• Tube markings: D.O.T. specs
• Working pressure: 4:1 safety factor
• UV stabilized
• Resin compliance: meets UL94HB testing requirements
• Suggested fittings: push-in, compression

Is your DOT tubing compatible with standard push-to-connect air brake fittings?

Nylon Air Brake Tubing for Heavy Duty Vehicles
Freelin-Wade’s nylon 11 air brake tubing is heat and UV stabilized, making it highly resistant to stress-cracking and, therefore, ideal for outdoor applications with significant sunlight exposure. Our D.O.T. tubing is available in sizes 5/16” OD and smaller, and six standard colors are available (color availability varies by size). We offer air brake tubing in 100’ lengths or on easy-to-dispense reels (up to 2,000’).
 
Please note that we offer only Type “A” air brake tubing; we do not offer larger, Type “B” reinforced air brake hose.
