Dual bonded polyurethane coils are regularly used for transferring fluids and gas products. The multi-tube nature of these products allows for the delivery of increased amounts of fluid or gas without the hassle of larger tubes. Additionally, different types of fluid or gas can also be delivered within the various tubes, which saves space and provides added convenience.

Contact Freelin-Wade today for Fre-Thane® polyurethane multi-tube for your coiled tubing application. We also offer single tube Fre-Thane® coils.

Literature and Additional Information

Fre-Thane® Dual Bonded Polyurethane Coils

Freelin-Wade’s unique, ether-based Fre-Thane® polyurethane coil tubing offers extreme flexibility, excellent kink resistance and outstanding memory. This polyurethane multi-tube coil can be repeatably stretched and flexed to its limit but will always return to its original shape. Fre-Thane® twin bonded coils are ideal for nearly any coil tubing application.

Additionally, Fre-Thane® is available in numerous colors, and offers the most custom-variation possibilities of any of our plastic tubing products.

Freelin-Wade’s Multi-Tube Coils

We produce our Fre-Thane® polyurethane multi-bore polyurethane coils in a single extrusion. This prevents the individual tubes from separating and creates a sturdier and more secure coiled tubing product. However, this means that all tubes must be the same color. See below for multi-tube options featuring different-colored coils. Download our free polyurethane multi-tube coils data sheet for more information.

Fre-Thane® Coiled Tubing Specifications

Fre-Thane multi-bore polyurethane coil tubing maintains unique specifications that allows it to be used for several types of applications. This highly advanced PU multitube coil product is specifically formulated to deliver the results that your projects demand. The specifications for polyurethane multi tube coil are as follows:
  • Temperature range: -40°F to 165°F (-40°C to 74°C)
  • Vacuum rating: to 28” Hg
  • Diameter tolerances: ±0.005”
  • Tube markings: none
  • Working pressure: 3:1 safety factor
  • Suggested fittings: barb
  • Standard tail lengths: 8” and 16”
  • Resin compliance: 90A: NSF61, meets UL94HB; 85A: NSF61, meets UL94HB, USPVI
Our Fre-Thane® 85A and 90A polyurethane coils possess outstanding memory, a soft feel, and superior flexibility. These coiled tubes are extraordinarily tough and resistant to abrasion, overstretching, kinking, and repeated flexing. Fre-Thane® coils have two straight tails: one that is 8” long, one that is 16”.

Ether-Base vs. Ester-Base Dual Bonded Polyurethane Coils

Polyurethane was developed by German chemist Friedrich Bayer in 1937. Originally known as “Perlon U”, polyurethane gained popularity during World War II as a replacement for rubber. In its first commercial application, polyurethane resin was used as a thread to make a stretchable, lightweight fabric that would come to be known as Spandex.

Today, there are two standard classes of polyurethane: ether-base and ester-base. Both are commonly used across numerous markets. Chemically, polyurethane resins are comprised of polyol alcohol and isocyanate. The difference is the type of polyol—both options produce similar, but different, reactions in the isocyanate.

In general, ester-based polyurethane is less expensive; however, it degrades when exposed to moisture. Because of this, Freelin-Wade manufactures all our Fre-Thane® polyurethane multi-tube coils from ether-base materials.

Innovative Polyurethane Twin Bonded Coil Applications

Depending on your precise application needs, twin bore coils can be used to fulfill many of your specific application needs. Single tube polyurethane coils can be used to deliver a bevy of liquids and gases, other related applications include:
  • Slurry transfer
  • Insulating sleeves
  • Fluid transfer lines
  • Vacuum equipment
  • Motor fuel lines
  • Robotics
  • And more

Innovative Polyurethane Multi-Tube Coil Manufacturers Since 1980

Freelin-Wade began manufacturing polyurethane multi tube coil in 1980, and, with the introduction of Fre-Thane®, it remains our flagship product today. Fre-Thane® polyurethane tubing is our most versatile product, with more options and variations available than any other tubing we offer.

Multi-Color Twin Bonded Coil Variable Options

If your application requires multi-tube coils with different colored tubes (or if you simply prefer this option), Freelin-Wade offers Multi-Colored Ribbon tubing (MCR). MCR is made with a special bonding technology that enables us to take tubes of different sizes and colors and join them to make multi-tube coils. One distinct advantage MCR coiled tubes offer over Fre-Thane® multi-tubes is that individual MCR coils can be separated easily, without any residue left behind.
