Fre-Thane® Polyurethane Multi-Tube Coils
Freelin-Wade’s proprietary, ether-based Fre-Thane® polyurethane tubing is highly flexible, exhibits excellent kink resistance, and, best of all, has exceptional “memory”—it can be stretched and flexed to extremes, but will always return to its original shape. These properties make Fre-Thane® polyurethane tubing the perfect choice for coiled tubing applications.
Additionally, Fre-Thane® is available in a variety of colors, and offers the most custom-variation possibilities of any of our plastic tubing products.
Freelin-Wade’s Multi-Tube Coils
We produce our Fre-Thane® polyurethane multi-tube coils in a single extrusion. This prevents the individual tubes from separating and creates sturdier and more secure coiled tubing. However, this means that all tubes must be the same color. See below for multi-tube options featuring different-colored coils.

Innovative Polyurethane Tubing Manufacturers Since 1980
Freelin-Wade began manufacturing polyurethane tubing in 1980, and, with the introduction of Fre-Thane®, it remains our flagship product today. Fre-Thane® polyurethane tubing is our most versatile product, with more options and variations available than any other tubing we offer.
Ether-Base vs. Ester-Base Polyurethane
Polyurethane was developed by German chemist Friedrich Bayer in 1937. Originally known as “Perlon U”, polyurethane gained popularity during World War II as a replacement for rubber. In its first commercial application, polyurethane resin was used as a thread to make a stretchable, lightweight fabric that would come to be known as Spandex.
Today, there are two standard classes of polyurethane: ether-base and ester-base. Both are commonly used across numerous markets. Chemically, polyurethane resins are comprised of polyol alcohol and isocyanate. The difference is the type of polyol—both options produce similar, but different, reactions in the isocyanate.
In general, ester-based polyurethane is less expensive; however, it degrades when exposed to moisture. Because of this, Freelin-Wade manufactures all our Fre-Thane® polyurethane multi-tube coils from ether-base materials.
Multi-Color Multi-Tube Coils
If your application requires multi-tube coils with different colored tubes (or if you simply prefer this option), Freelin-Wade offers Multi-Colored Ribbon tubing (MCR). MCR is made with a special bonding technology that enables us to take tubes of different sizes and colors and join them to make multi-tube coils. One distinct advantage MCR coiled tubes offer over Fre-Thane® multi-tubes is that individual MCR coils can be separated easily, without any residue left behind.
