Build-a-Tether

We developed the Build-A-Tether program as an easy way to get you started thinking about all of the options with tethers. By no means are these all of the options. There are countless ends, welds, colors, lengths and tails that we can build. We can even make the tethers hollow.

  • Step 1: Pick a Color
    • Our standard color offering in the .090" diameter material is black, white or clear and the larger .115" diameter material is available in over 20 different color options. If you require something different, we're happy to match any color you need. The process of color matching is easy and we’re the fastest in the industry at turning color variations around.
  • Step 2: Pick a Size
    • Tether material is described by the outside diameter of the material. Generally, the bigger the material O.D., the more weight the tether can support as well as the tighter the “snap-back” coil retention. Our standard sizes (in inches) are: .090, .115, .125, .156, .187, and .250. We generally say that the .090 size is ideal for attaching small light objects such as an informational card, pen or small point-of-purchase display samples.
  • Step 3: How Long Should it Be?
    • We describe tethers in two ways: working length and retracted length. The working length is the distance that the tether can be comfortably stretched. The retracted length is the length of the coil portion of the tether, when no pressure is applied to it.
  • Step 4: The Ends
    • Tails: Usually having a tail means that you want a lap fused loop or crimped loop end. For examples of these, download our catalog.
    • Hardware: We have many hardware options in-stock but even more are available to us. Ask us about availability, pricing and minimums.
    • Welds: Freelin-Wade uses two basic welds: a 90 degree fused loop and a flat weld.  The 90 degree is probably better for most applications because it means the tether will hang straight while providing optimum mobility for most attachments. Alternatively, the flat weld is a slightly more secure method of attaching your hardware because a greater surface area is being bonded.
  • Step 5: Contact Us!
    • Now that you have designed your tether, it’s time to give us a call or send us an e-mail. We’d be happy to make a sample of what you want and send it right out.
